A 32-year-old youth soccer coach from Modesto was arrested this week on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material, becoming the second coach from the same competitive soccer club to face such charges this year.Police announced the arrest of 32-year-old Efrain Aguayo Jr. of Modesto on Thursday, citing that multiple tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) helped officers take him into custody.Detectives searched Aguayo Jr.’s home and found multiple electronic devices that will undergo forensic analysis, the police department said.Aguayo Jr. was employed by Ajax United, a nonprofit soccer organization that operates under the Modesto Youth Soccer Association. Marcus Raposas, executive director for MYSA-Ajax United said his first reaction was “a little bit of, anger, but more disappointment and it’s really disheartening to be honest with you.”Raposas emphasized the organization’s commitment to thorough background checks, explaining that each coach “is put through, live scan, which is a Department of Justice background check.” In Aguayo’s case, Raposas noted that due to his involvement in other programs, he underwent three separate checks, saying, “We do do a very, very thorough job and matter of fact, the programs that we’re in won’t even issue licenses or cards to these coaches if those background checks aren’t completed.”Following Aguayo’s arrest, the organization promptly contacted families to address the situation, he said. “We’re vetting these people out. It’s an unfortunate situation and a situation that we’re always going to be looking to figure out how, you know, we can improve on in terms of, you know, what we could do better,” he said. Aguayo Jr.’s arrest comes months after another Modesto youth soccer coach was arrested on child porn possession and distribution charges.NCMEC also assisted law enforcement with a cybertip that led to the arrest of 33-year-old Matthew Paez, police said in July. According to court records, Paez is expected in court next week.KCRA 3 has learned that both coaches were employed with MYSA-Ajax United during the same period, according to a former coach with the club.Police have reported that there is no evidence suggesting any players were directly affected in either case.
