Ukraine’s military intelligence agency has released footage of a successful strike on Russian radar installations hidden inside protective domes atop Mount Ai-Petri in occupied Crimea, as well as the destruction of a Russian BK-16 landing craft, the agency’s press service confirmed on August 7.
The operation was carried out by the elite “Prymary ” unit of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), which used maritime drone carriers to deliver explosive-laden UAVs to the southern coastline of the Crimean Peninsula. Their primary target: the 3rd Radio-Technical Regiment of Russia’s Armed Forces.
Evading surface-to-air missiles and a Russian fighter jet, the Ukrainian drones successfully struck and destroyed a Russian Project 02510 “BK-16” landing boat, along with three advanced radar systems:
In a significant blow to Russian air defense infrastructure, Ukrainian operatives also destroyed radar stations that had been hidden inside radio-transparent domes — structures originally built during the Soviet era to protect sensitive equipment from weather.
“These dome structures were designed to shield sensitive radar arrays from atmospheric exposure,” Ukrainian military intelligence noted. “But after suffering significant losses, the occupiers began using them to conceal high-value radar assets.”
Among the targeted radar domes was one located on the slopes of Mount Ai-Petri, where the Russians had established an air defense base for the 3rd Radio-Technical Regiment (military unit 85683-A), according to the HUR.

Since Russia’s 2014 occupation of Crimea, the Russian military has been modernizing and expanding Soviet-era infrastructure, including constructing new radar domes across the peninsula.
These domes now cover a variety of modern systems such as the Nebo-M, Kasta-2E2, and Podlet, providing radar coverage for Russia’s Southern Military District’s air defense network.
Strategic locations fortified with these new installations include Cape Tarkhankut, the Tefe-Oba area near Feodosia, and the outskirts of Kerch—all of which now form part of an interconnected radar network supporting Russian air defense operations in Crimea.
