Review: Andaz Prague, A Posh Hyatt Hotel In Czech Capital

I had a lovely stay at the Andaz Prague with excellent service, comfortable accommodations, and delicious food and drinks. This is a wonderful property in the Hyatt portfolio and a gem of a hotel in the Czech capital.

I spent my final night in Prague at the Andaz, paying about 300 USD for my stay. The price more than doubles during peak season. As a Category 6 hotel, free nights range from 21,000 (non-peak) to 25,000 (standard) to 29,000 (peak) per night. I preferred to pay $300 versus burn 25K points, but I would have been happy to use 29K points versus paying $650/night.

Location

Located in the heart of Prague’s city center in the historic 1916 Sugar Palace, this 176-room hotel opened in 2022. From the hotel, you can reach most major Prague tourist attractions by foot.

On my way out, I walked to the nearby Prague bus station, where I caught a direct bus to the airport, which was a fraction of the price of Uber and took the same amount of time.

Check-In

Arriving around 3:00 pm, I was warmly greeted by check-in staff and offered a beverage, which is a signature touch at Hyatt’s Andaz properties. The lobby was full of natural light and included an eclectic mix of furniture.

Room (Suite)

As a Globalist, I was upgraded to a suite on the top level, room 507.

The restroom was large and included two sinks, a toilet, a large soaking tub, and a separate shower. Shower amenities were “Eleventh Hour” from Byredo (a Swedish company).

Globalist Happy Hour

I quite liked the Globalist Happy Hour concept at MEZ bar. I was presented with three scents:

a group of small bottles with black caps on moss

The hostess asked me to choose the scent I found most pleasing and she would make a cocktail that matched it (my choice had a strong citrus scent).

Food + Drink

The hotel offers 23/7 (yes, not 24/7) room service as well as all-day dining in ZEM Restaurant as well as drinks and more casual food in the aforementioned MEZ Bar.

ZEM Restaurant

The Czech bistro is open for breakfast (7:00 am – 11:00 am), lunch (12:00 pm – 3:00 pm), and dinner (6:00 pm – 11:00 pm) daily (brunch is served in place of lunch on Sundays).

I had breakfast here and loved the hybrid buffet, featuring high-quality baked foods, juices, fruits, yogurts, meats, cheese, and salads, coupled with an a la carte menu featuring a number of hot items. You could order as much as you wanted, including your choice of coffee.

In addition to the Globalist Happy Hour, I enjoyed my favorite cocktail, a gin basil smash, with some cashews at the bar.

Room Service

Usually, when I am traveling solo, I just do room service or takeaway since I don’t like to sit in restaurants alone, but  I walked to the nearby Cafe Imperial for dinner, so I did not partake in the room service menu here. Here’s the menu. There’s only a very light overnight menu and no room service between 6:00 am and 7:00 am.

Service

Across the board, the service was excellent here. Everyone was kind and attentive, from the check-in staff to the bar staff to the restaurant staff to the spa staff. Of course, I would expect nothing less, but it was still a pleasure to be treated so kindly by everyone here.

CONCLUSION

As much as I loved the value of the Linder Prague Castle, I loved the Andaz…the location, the quality, the service, and the amenities. While I would happily return to either Hyatt property in Prague, this hotel has a special place in my heart.
