Mario Hermoso and Antony Rudiger’s set-piece headers were followed by a deft Ferland Mendy flicked finish and Antoine Griezmann’s excellent solo goal, which set a new record for Atleti goals scored and sent the teams into halftime at 2-2.

Rudiger’s own goal appeared to have won it for Atletico in normal time after Kepa Arrizabalaga made a mistake. However, Dani Carvajal scored late on following a move that saw Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior both superbly denied in the area.

After looking superior for much of the game, Real Madrid won it in extra time thanks to a looping own goal by Stefan Savic and a thrilling last-second goal from Brahim Diaz, who outran Jan Oblak, who had come up for a corner, to finish from just inside the Atletico half after hoofing the clearance.

Now, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will play Osasuna or Barcelona in the final on Sunday at the same location in the Saudi capital.
