Mace spars with lawmakers, calls out Hunter Biden: ‘You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes’
During a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on Wednesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) criticized Hunter Biden and got into a heated argument with her peers over a resolution that would have held the president’s son in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena last month.

Shortly after Biden made an unexpected entrance in the room on Wednesday, Mace was among the first members to speak, and she questioned his attendance at the session.

“I want to know who bought Hunter Biden’s ticket here today,” That’s what I want to know. In response to the second query, you personify white privilege. Entering the Oversight Committee, spitting in our faces, and refusing to comply with a subpoena from Congress to step down. What fears do you have? Mace remarked, “You have no balls to come up here.”

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) interrupted Mace and proposed that the panel take a vote at that very now to allow Biden to speak in public. This prompted a retaliatory response from South Carolina and pushed committee chair James Comer (R-Ky.) to attempt to rein in the meeting.

“May I speak now? Are women permitted to speak in this room?” “What are you afraid of?” Mace asked the room over Moskowitz’s ranting. Comer joined in, adding to the din in the room by repeatedly saying “order” and banging his gavel.

“Can women speak in this room, or not? since you’re always cutting me off,” Mace remarked.

Moskowitz answered, “I’ll interrupt the chairman; I’m not sure if he’s a lady.”

Biden “should be arrested right here, right now, and go straight to jail,” Mace continued.

“C’mon,” a politician in the room said as she continued, “Our nation is founded on the rule of law and the premise that the law applies equally to everyone regardless of your last name.” Which lawmaker said the thing is unknown.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) intervened shortly after to denounce the disruptions and his colleagues’ “nimrod” behavior.

“Are we going to keep having this obvious interruption? Biggs declared, “This is inappropriate and ridiculous.” “I want to make my message, and I don’t want anyone to stop me from saying it. I will not stop you from speaking. Instead of acting like a group of nimrods, I believe you should act with decorum and decency.

After that, Mace persisted in criticizing Hunter Biden and asserting that he is “not above the law.”

It doesn’t matter what your last name is, who your father is, where you were raised, or who you are. Yes, Hunter Biden, you are not above the law at all, he added, glancing at you as he spoke.

“Hunter Biden disregarded the law. He did this on purpose, and you did this blatantly when, on the day of the congressional subpoena, you defied it by coming to the Senate side of the hill and spitting in this committee’s face.

You did that, she said afterwards. The American public wants to know what Hunter Biden is terrified of so badly. Why are you unable to attend a deposition before Congress? This is all just a political ploy for you. To you, this is simply a publicity gimmick; it’s just a game you’re playing with the people of America. You’re manipulating the truth.

With that, she addressed Biden, saying, “You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.”

Hearings were held by the Oversight and Judiciary committees on Wednesday to discuss a resolution that would find Biden in contempt of Congress for his refusal to appear for a deposition behind closed doors last month, despite a congressional subpoena. Rather, the younger Biden stated in a statement that his father “was not financially involved in my business” while speaking on the Capitol complex.

The House GOP’s impeachment probe of President Biden included a request for testimony. Republicans on the panels have requested that Hunter Biden take a private deposition before testifying in public. Democrats and Biden’s staff have not wasted any time in pointing out that Comer had previously stated he would “drop everything” if Biden desired to testify in public before issuing the subpoena.

After the two left the court on Wednesday, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, made a statement in which she said that “Republicans have sought to use him as a surrogate to attack his father.”

“The Republican chairs today, then, are commandeering an unprecedented resolution to hold someone in contempt who has offered to publicly answer all their proper questions,” he later said. “It is unclear what they are afraid of,”

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, addressed Mace’s initial remarks during the markup and chastised her for implying that Hunter Biden’s presence at the Capitol symbolized “white privilege” later in the hearing.

“I just want to go all the way back to the beginning because I just can’t seem to get over this.” I simply cannot get over the South Carolina gentlewoman’s discussion of white privilege. “Talking about what white privilege looks like, especially from that side of the aisle, was a spit in the face, at least for me as a Black woman,” she remarked.

Additional highlights from The Hill:
Crockett continued by paraphrasing former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from last month’s 2019 State of the Union speech, in which he remarked that Republicans “look like the most restrictive country club in America” and Democrats “look like America.”

“You guys have no idea what white privilege looks like,” remarked Crockett.

In defense of herself, Mace stated, “I take great pride as a white female Republican to address the inadequacies in our country,” and cited her previous position as the ranking member of the Civil Rights Subcommittee.

After saying, “Let’s be very clear, this isn’t about Hunter Biden’s white privilege, it’s about Hunter Biden’s Democrat privilege,” she ceded to Representative Byron Donalds.
