Titans Defeat Utep at Home

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s soccer team continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory over UTEP at Titan Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Titans improved to 2-0-1 to start the year.   Isabella Cruz had back-to-back game winners for the week after scoring the only goal in the win over Portland and scoring on a penalty kick in the second half against UTEP.

The Titans were able to play 20 players in the match against UTEP as a couple players either made their season debuts or their first start of the season.

After a slow start while both teams were feeling each other out, the Titans found the break through in the 18th minute.

Jenae Perez won a ball back in the defensive side of the field.  She dribbled up to midfield and sent it to Isabella Cruz while continuing her run.  Cruz was able to feed Perez the ball back inside the box where she Perez calmly slotted it past the keeper to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead.

The Titans outshot the Miners 6-to-5 in the first half and held a 5-1 advantage in shots after Perez’s goal in the 18th minute.

In the second half, the Titans continued their strong play and Sail Bozinovic made an instant impact in her first minutes of the 2025 season.  Her jersey was tugged inside the box by a Miner defender and Isabella Cruz was able to score the ensuing penalty kick to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Titans continued pressing for a third goal and Kaylin Raibon had a shot clang off the crossbar on a fantastic corner kick.  UTEP got a goal out of nothing in the 60th minute after Olivia Roskos sent in a free kick near the midfield line that bounced into the box untouched where Hayden McMillan was able to send one past Isaac Ranson.  That was the first goal the Titans defense gave up for the season

The Titans outshot the Miners 8-to-6 in the second frame and 14-to-11 for the game.  However, the Miners held some momentum over the final 15 minutes where they got three shots off after the Titans had four players receive yellow cards in the second half.

The Titans defense were able to see out the win and continue their unbeaten start to the season.  The Titans head back to the East Coast for the second time this season as they make a return trip to Pittsburgh after falling 2-0 to them last year at home.
