The New York Yankees are bound to swing a few big trades this season. They’ve been closely connected to Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suárez to fill the massive hole at the hot corner in the Bronx.
They’ve also been linked to numerous starting pitchers. But if the Yankees are going to chase the big fish on the market, they’re going to need to use big trade bait.
FanSided’s Eric Cole recently suggested the Yankees would use talented pitching prospect Cam Schlitter on the trade block in the coming days.

“New York needs a third baseman and it just so happens that one of the best players (if not the best) available on the trade market is third baseman Eugenio Suarez who probably tops their wish list,” Cole wrote. “Even for a rental, acquiring Suarez is going to require a significant trade package.
“The Yankees aren’t going to part with guys like George Lombard Jr. or Spencer Jones for a player with less than a year of team control, but Schlittler has burst onto the scene and selling high on an arm feels like a smart play. Schlittler’s biceps injury muddies the waters a bit, but he is still a name to watch at the deadline.”
If the Yankees are going to chase big trade targets, they’re going to have to part ways with some talented prospects. Trading Schlitter would be that theory in practice.
The Bronx Bombers could use Schlitter in a deal for Suárez, who they’ve been closely connected to. They could also use the top prospect in a deal to acquire a veteran starting pitcher to take his spot in the rotation.
Either way, I’d expect the Yankees to hold onto Will Warren and use Schlitter as trade bait.
