In the first game of his highly anticipated sophomore season, quarterback Dylan Raiola threw for 243 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against the Bearcats while completing 33 of 42 passes. The attempts were his second-most in a game in his college career. He was helped out by a stout defense, one that limited Cincinnati to just 69 passing yards and 2.8 yards per attempt.
Akron should present an easier test. Though they’ve made marginal improvements in three seasons under coach Joe Moorhead, the former Mississippi State head coach and Penn State offensive coordinator, the Zips haven’t won more than four games in a season since 2017 and are off to a disheartening start to the 2025 season, with a 10-0 loss to Wyoming in Week 1 in which they were held to just 3.5 yards per play.
