Grog, grub, good times await at Magic Kingdom’s Beak and Barrel

BAY LAKE, Fla. – Later this month, Disney landlubbers can gather their crew and embark on an adventure at Magic Kingdom’s first official pub.

The Beak and Barrel, a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern, offers guests more than just drinks. It’s an immersive social experience for families and friends.

Disney Imagineers and culinary experts collaborated to create a space where storytelling and interaction come alive.

“Rather than just passively moving through an attraction, this is a space that lives between the movies, between the attractions that guests can spend time in so they can talk with each other,” said Chris Weck, Senior Creative at Walt Disney Imagineering. “It becomes more of a social moment and that families can enjoy rather than just, you know, a typical attraction.”

Amidst the many tales spun at the pub, the origin story of this legendary dive reveals that it was founded by the Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and is expertly managed by Rummy. The lifelike audio-animatronic bird and the latest generation of Disney’s “Barker Birds” presides over the bar, ensuring everyone has a great time.

“Our latest generation of audio-animatronic birds goes all the way back to Walt Disney himself and his love for audio, science, and birds in particular. This is our most advanced audio-animatronic bird, much more lifelike than anything seen in the past,” said Ken Ricci, Executive Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Following her voyages with Captain Merry, Kat has retired to the Beak and Barrel and greets guests and occasionally interacts with Rummy the parrot. (The culinary team has crafted a food and drink menu that perfectly complements the pirate theme.)

Guests can expect immersive moments every seven to eight minutes, with unique experiences in different areas of the bar; including The Mess, Cursed Bar, Captains’ Quarters, Captains’ Booths, and the Mapmaker’s Room,

“We have show moments that go off and encompass this entire bar,” said Weck. ”Those do not happen within that 45-minute window, so every time guests come back, they might get a slightly-different experience.”

One standout dish is the Kraken’s Catch, a lemon-lime marinated octopus salad with avocado, olives, capers, and a piquillo pepper almond foam, served with a dramatic Kraken’s tentacle garnish.

“We have other options that are more family friendly, but we wanted something that would be fun and daring,” said Bobby Rivera, Chef de Cuisine with Walt Disney World. ”So, what’s more daring than the octopus tentacle creeping from under the salad?”

Signature drinks like the Siren’s Whisper, the Plunder’s Punch and the Salty Seas MaRRRgarita offer unique twists on classic cocktails.

Reservations are open and can be made online. The Beak and Barrel will also be open during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
