Camp Rock is now one of the most legendary Disney Channel Original Movies: It introduced the world to Demi Lovato, who has been in the headlines ever since. And did we mention it also featured the Jonas Brothers—who played the band Connect 3 in the movie—back when they were every tween’s obsession? No wonder it was a hit.
Now, 17 years after the first movie premiered, Camp Rock 3, the series’ third installment, has officially been greenlit by Disney Channel.
The original film, released in 2008, followed Mitchie Torres as she attended a competitive summer music camp, sparked a romance with a pop star, and struggled to fit in with her privileged peers. In 2010, Disney released a sequel which saw the return of all the original stars.
According to Disney, the Camp Rock films are still in the top 10 most watched movies on the network.
What We Know About ‘Camp Rock 3’ So Far
There’s still no official release date for the movie, but we do know a little bit about the plot.
In Camp Rock 3, Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas are confirmed to reprise their original roles as the members of the boy band Connect 3. After losing the opening act for their reunion tour, the band heads back to Camp Rock to scope out a potential replacement among this new generation of campers.
They meet a cello prodigy, a drummer, and a choreographer, among many other impressive acts—even a popular social media influencer has made it into the Camp Rock ranks.
Disney teased that “tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances,” as the campers compete to become Connect 3’s opening act.
Who Else Will Star in ‘Camp Rock 3’?
The movie will feature tons of new Disney talent, including Malachi Barton, star of the latest movie in the popular Zombies franchise, Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, and Liamani Segura from Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.
However, there’s no word on whether or not the original movie’s star, Lovato, will appear in the third movie.
For millennial parents who were raised on the Jonas Brothers and Disney Channel musicals, the latest Camp Rock movie is going to be a welcome shot of nostalgia. And for their kids who have never seen Camp Rock before, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce them to a piece of your childhood.
Who knows, maybe the next thing you know, your tween will suggest a movie night to binge all three. Anything to get them to spend time with us is a win.
