Andrew Barth Feldman’s next stage role comes with a built-in love story, both on-stage and off!
The Dear Evan Hansen alum and No Hard Feelings breakout will join the cast of Maybe Happy Ending for a special nine-week run beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Belasco Theatre in New York City. He’ll take over the role of Oliver — a lovable, out-of-date helperbot — from Darren Criss, who originated the part on Broadway.
The limited engagement marks a full-circle moment for Feldman, who will now star opposite his real-life girlfriend, Helen J Shen, in the show’s central love story.
“I am so in love with this show and with Helen J Shen,” Feldman said in a statement. “I’ve been a plus one on this Broadway journey from the beginning, and this brilliant team and beautiful company have already become such a big part of my life. That they trust me with this role, and are giving me the ridiculous gift of sharing it with Helen, is an honor beyond words.”

Directed by Tony winner Michael Arden (Parade), Maybe Happy Ending tells the story of two obsolete helper robots who meet in a Seoul apartment and spark an unexpected romance. Shen stars as Claire, with Dez Duron, Marcus Choi, Steven Huynh, Hannah Kevitt, Daniel May, Christopher James Tamayo and Claire Kwon rounding out the cast.
Feldman, 23, previously starred in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, as well as the Off-Broadway productions of Little Shop of Horrors and We Had a World.
A winner of the prestigious National High School Musical Theatre Award (aka the Jimmy Award), he has most recently been seen on screen in 2024’s Saturday Night and heard on screen as the voice of Dopey in 2025’s Snow White. Other notable roles include the 2023 comedy No Hard Feelings opposite Jennifer Lawrence, as well as a run on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The New York native and Harvard University student also stars in Maude Apatow’s upcoming directorial debut Poetic License alongside Cooper Hoffman and Lesilie Mann.

In a joint statement, Maybe Happy Ending creators Will Aronson and Hue Park, along with Arden, praised Feldman as “a remarkable talent — emotionally honest, musically gifted, and full of heart.”
“We fell in love with Andrew’s take on the role of Oliver when he appeared as the reader in Helen J Shen’s initial audition tape,” they added. “To have him join her onstage at the Belasco is indeed a special treat, and a pairing we feel certain audiences will love as much as we (and they) do.”
Maybe Happy Ending opened on Nov. 12, 2024, to wide critical acclaim. It won six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Original Score and a trophy for Criss for Best Actor in a Musical.
A North American tour is scheduled to launch in fall 2026.
The show, originally written in both Korean and English, had its world premiere in Seoul in 2016 before making its U.S. debut at the Alliance Theatre in 2019.
