Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith returned to the metro Saturday for a meet-and-greet with fans, signing autographs and reminiscing about his time in Kansas City.Fans lined up to meet Smith, who played for the Chiefs from 2013 to 2017. Among those in attendance was Chiefs fan Reggie Jump, who brought a special piece of memorabilia, Smith’s game-worn jersey from the 2013 playoff game against the Colts.“It means a lot actually. I’ve been trying for a long time to get it signed,” Jump said. During his five seasons, he started 76 games, threw for nearly 18,000 yards, tossed 102 touchdowns and led the team to 50 victories.“This is a special organization filled with special people,” Smith said. “These were the best five years of my career without a doubt.”Smith recalled the team’s nine-game win streak in his first season, multiple division titles and playoff runs. He also served as a mentor to quarterback Patrick Mahomes during Mahomes’ rookie year.“It’s arguably the greatest start to a career that we’ve ever seen,” Smith said.Now working in television, Smith praised Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.“He’s on the Mount Rushmore of coaches, one of the greatest of all time to do it again, so deserving as such a special human,” Smith said.
