A horse-shaped nebula gets its close-up in new photos by NASA’s Webb telescope

DALLAS (AP) — NASA’s Webb Area Telescope has revealed the sharpest photos but of a portion of a horse-shaped nebula, exhibiting the “mane” in finer element.

The Horsehead Nebula, within the constellation Orion, is 1,300 light-years away. A lightweight-year is almost 6 trillion miles (9.7 trillion kilometers).

Found over a century in the past, its nickname derives from its placing look — a wispy pillar of gasoline and mud that resembles a horse rearing its head.

Webb’s newest infrared photos launched Monday captured the highest of Horsehead in higher element, illuminating clouds of chilly hydrogen molecules and soot-like chemical substances. These glamour pictures may also help refine astronomers’ understanding of the nebula, which acts as a nursery for large stars to brew.
