How to watch late series

The Detroit Tigers are going to California, but not to where they would usually travel in Anaheim or Oakland.

With the Athletics temporarily re-routed in their move from the East Bay to Las Vegas, the Tigers will be playing a series in West Sacramento, California for the first time in team history. The three-game series will run from Monday, Aug. 25 through Wednesday, Aug. 27, with all games beginning at 10:05 p.m. ET.

The Tigers have just finished a 5-1 week, highlighted by a sweep of the Houston Astros and a weekend series win against the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers came within a few runs of going 6-0 on the week, but dropped a 10-8 series finale against the Royals on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Detroit has an American League-best 78-54 record and holds a 10½ game divisional lead over the second-place Royals. The Athletics, meanwhile, are last in the AL West with a 60-72 record, though they are still 12 games ahead of the AL-worst Chicago White Sox at 47-83.

The Tigers have a manageable strength of schedule over their last 30 games, as they face no current first-place teams through the end of their regular season. If the Cleveland Guardians can make a run up the AL Central standings, their six games against the Tigers in September could prove impactful towards the divisional race.

But the odds of that are looking slim, with the Tigers having a 99.8% chance to win their division according to the latest FanGraphs update.
