The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018), a modern Western, has been lauded as “simply perfect”, with fans applauding its “excellent” performances and “hilarious dialogue”. This anthology Western comprises six stories, each showcasing diverse themes and characters – and now you can stream it on Netflix.
The movie is the brainchild of the Cohen brothers, renowned for classics like The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men. It presents a rich tapestry of characters that encapsulate the grim realities of the American Frontier in unique ways. Tim Blake Nelson, known for his role in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, plays the cheerful, singing cowboy, Buster.
The star-studded cast also includes Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, James Franco, and the raspy-voiced music legend Tom Waits.
One audience reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes, where it received a 89% score, penned: “A singing outlaw, an unlucky robber and an aging prospector are some of the stories in this American anthology of violence, danger and excitement. With a stellar cast portraying each of their characters with gusto, this is unlike any other western movie you’ve ever heard of!”.
